Blue Skies

When I first arrived in Montana it was through a blanket of smoke. I mistook the smoke for a magical mountain mist when we were flying in, and then I remembered my mom mentioning the fires in Idaho. That last photo is what those same mountains looked like only a couple days before. A merciful rainstorm made its way through the valley and I finally got a few days of blue skies at the end of my trip. Living on the East Coast, I’ve avoided some perilous, scary moments with fire in the West. There were advisories to stay indoors because the air quality was so bad … which is hard to do, coming from the big city to enjoy my fix of nature and all. I had to go snap some photos of my favorite mountain range finally emerging from the smoke. I did, in fact, get my nature fix. Yesterday on our way to Missoula we passed a whole herd of Bison and my cousin pulled off so we could get a closer look and pay our respects. I have video footage to share and I will be diving into editing all of it shortly. It was quite glorious to return to my bed last night, put on an outfit this morning (with some new loafers I thrifted in Missoula!), drop off some dry cleaning, and walk through my neighborhood to one of my staple wfh coffee shops.

Week in Snapshots

Some snapshots from the week … a good one in warm locations, but happy to be home … despite it being 12 degrees in NY today. It is chillyyy. I am having a weird morning. I missed my stop on the train and when I rerouted and got off on the right stop, I tripped going up the subway stairs. I had one hand in my pocket but managed to catch myself with the other. I teared up out of pure frustration and embarrassment. Then I got to the spa to check my schedule and no one has booked a facial all day so I didn’t even need to be rushing. Now I am at a coffee shop down the street, licking my wounds and trying to turn this day around. I am going to try and get myself taken off the schedule for tomorrow because I think I need some days to myself. I would like to film a thrift haul for y’all and have a nice day of editing at a coffee shop.

This weekend I got taken on a surprise excursion to The Summit in Manhattan. It’s on the 91st floor of the Vanderbilt building and starts with a room of mirrors with an incredible view of the city. I loved that it was indoors, unlike The Edge, which would have been unbearably cold this time of year. The following room has silver helium balloons that dance around the room. It was a wonderful time and a great surprise. And yesterday I finally got to see Sofia. She had been subleasing for a month while she found a permanent apartment … and lucky me that permanent apartment is less than I mile from mine! We had a piquant dinner at Nene’s Taqueria and then some cocktails at a lovely bar down the street named Palmetto. I will be revisiting both!

Vou revisitar ambos!

Saturday

Happy Juneteenth loves. Despite bruises up and down my forearms we decided to play volleyball for a second time this morning. You can see some of the bruises in the first photo. We lasted about twenty minutes before changing gears and doing a little weight circuit training on the porch. April is going slightly crazy on a Keto diet and all I can say is … I’m happy to be able to eat bread. After the workout, Chief, April’s roommate Julian and I went to McDonald Lake up the road for a quick dip. It felt amazing to submerge myself in the icy mountain water. My cousins used to make me jump into a freezing lake or river during my visits to Montana to prove I was “still a Montana girl.” Now I do it voluntarily.

Feliz Juneteenth amores.

Yosemite

Hello loves! I am chillin' in my usual coffee shop, post yoga on the bluff. I am addicted to one of the paninis here so I've been loving going to yoga and then working on the blog and eating lunch down the street. I am excited to share these photos! Yosemite is too beautiful for pictures to truly capture. I had such a nice weekend with a mixture twelve old and new friends. We camped for two nights with no reception, no electricity, just coyote howls and lots of stars. Fresh air does a body good. One thing that makes Yosemite so unique is the striking contrast between the soft green meadows and the towering rock formations and mountains. There is nothing gradual or transitory about the valley. It is two extremes that together, create a true work of art. Nature is magic. I am excited to be heading up to Chico in a couple weeks for my birthday. I have my two days there already jam-packed with plans which include more nature and a little dancing, among other things.

Happy Monday

Kite Runner

These photos were taken on my first day back in Montana. I got to Charlo at midnight the night before and woke up to help my cousin and her family pack up their house and move ... down the road! They rent their house out every summer to the fire service (two pilots are staying there now) and my cousin is conveniently house sitting for a couple that lives on the closest property while they bike through Europe for two months. Luckily we traded one cute house with an awesome location for another! This was a nice pause in the day where I took the kids outside for a break from packing and cleaning to run around in the sunshine with a brand new parrot kite.

Desert Dessert

A few weekends ago I went on a little day trip to the desert. I just needed some silence and solitude. I love me some city, but I can't live without my nature. There is something so magical about the desert and its muted shades. No harsh hues but lots of snarled cacti that will insert themselves in your feet via your open-toed sandals ... BEWARE ;).
